Homemade Pizza Recipe

Pizza Dough Ingredients:

  • 2 1/4 teaspoons (1 packet) active dry yeast
  • 1 1/2 cups warm water (110°F/45°C)
  • 1 tablespoon granulated sugar
  • 3 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 1 teaspoon salt

Pizza Sauce Ingredients:

  • 1 can (14 ounces) crushed tomatoes
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 teaspoon dried oregano
  • 1 teaspoon dried basil
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Pizza Toppings:

  • Shredded mozzarella cheese
  • Your favorite toppings (such as pepperoni, mushrooms, bell peppers, onions, olives, etc.)

Instructions:

Pizza Dough:
  1. In a small bowl, combine the warm water, sugar, and active dry yeast. Let it sit for about 5-10 minutes until the mixture becomes frothy.

  2. In a large mixing bowl, combine the flour and salt. Make a well in the center and pour in the yeast mixture and olive oil.

  3. Stir the ingredients together until a dough forms. If the dough is too sticky, add a little more flour. If it's too dry, add a little more water.

  4. Turn the dough out onto a floured surface and knead for about 5-7 minutes until it becomes smooth and elastic.

  5. Place the dough in a lightly greased bowl, cover it with a clean kitchen towel or plastic wrap, and let it rise in a warm place for about 1-2 hours, or until it doubles in size.

Pizza Sauce:
  1. In a small saucepan, heat a tablespoon of olive oil over medium heat. Add the minced garlic and sauté for about 1 minute until fragrant.

  2. Stir in the crushed tomatoes, dried oregano, dried basil, salt, and pepper. Bring the sauce to a simmer and let it cook for about 10-15 minutes, stirring occasionally, until it thickens slightly.

  3. Remove the sauce from the heat and let it cool before using it as a pizza topping.

Assembling and Baking the Pizza:
  1. Preheat your oven to 475°F (245°C). If you have a pizza stone, place it in the oven to preheat as well.

  2. Punch down the risen pizza dough and divide it into two equal portions. Roll out each portion into a round shape, about 12 inches in diameter, on a lightly floured surface.

  3. Transfer the rolled-out dough to a lightly greased pizza pan or parchment paper.

  4. Spread a layer of pizza sauce over the dough, leaving a small border around the edges.

  5. Sprinkle a generous amount of shredded mozzarella cheese over the sauce, then add your desired toppings.

  6. Carefully transfer the assembled pizza to the preheated oven (on the pizza stone, if using) and bake for about 12-15 minutes, or until the crust is golden brown and the cheese is bubbly and melted.

  7. Remove the pizza from the oven and let it cool for a few minutes before slicing and serving.

  8. Enjoy your homemade pizza!
